HAO Facilities
Walter Orr Roberts and Donald Menzel founded the Climax Observatory in 1940, and the Sacramento Peak Observatory and the Mauna Loa Observatory soon followed. These facilities enabled scientists to observe the sun in pristine locations that enabled better viewing of solar phenomenon.
In addition to regular staff, these facilities hosted hundreds of scientific visitors from around the world, enabling the progression of science and furthering our understanding of the relationship between the sun and earth.
